Le Creuset Nutcracker

RCA® 2013 - Yoo-Jin Jung, Matthew Lydiatt, Pierre Paslier
This innovative nutcracker aims at bringing back to our lifestyle the activity of eating nuts in their shell. It does this in a playful, intuitive and sharing way while dealing with all the downsides of it. It is composed of an iron hammer and a silicon pocket. The nut is placed in the pocket and held on the hammer's head by a magnet. The user then strikes the hammer on the table and easily cracks the nut without having to aim. All the pieces of shell remain in the pocket.
This project aimed at creating a richer experience around the traditional Holiday season nutcrackers by bridging the values of Le Creuset with this family experience. With an extremely short timescale, this project shows in a nutshell what our design process is. Here is a short description of this project that shows the range of skills associated to the materialization of this idea, from early experiements to a small batch production.
